Twin-sticker Xeno Crisis is out on literally everything now
After being successfully Kickstarted Xeno Crisis is now shipping for Sega MegaDrive, Sega Dreamcast, Neo Geo MVS/AES, Nintendo Switch, Sony Playstation 4 and Microsofts Xbox One (did I forget a platform?). I forgot a platform: Steam!
The soundtrack is also available on vinyl and CD.
In a lovely twist you can buy just the game as a ROM for MegaDrive or a CD image for Dreamcast for people who just want to play the game without the added bulk (and wait for) of packaging.

It's chapter 5. The Dreamcast STG Chronicles continues
Hey, I helped fund this, all you have to do is watch!
Another nice episode of what is shaping up to be (as promised!) the definitive chronicling of the Dreamcast library of shmups/STGs.

Sturmwind goes EX, surfaces on Steam
Sturmwind is a horizontally scrolling shmup released for the SEGA Dreamcast way back in 2013.
But the makers, Duranik, have now gone back and re-tooled the graphics for 4K displays and are prepping for a Steam launch on September 28th with an added EX to the name.
The pitch:
STURMWIND EX is a shoot-em up in the tradition of old arcade games. If it moves - shoot it.
You can play missionmode with all 16 levels with saving your progress with every finished level or arcademode with 6 levels and no continues.
I really like this on the Dreamcast so I'll probably buy it again.
EDIT: It's coming to consoles as well, and Switch is a target.

Ikaruga gets physical again
Ikaruga is a really great shooter with puzzle elements or possibly a still great puzzle game with shooting elements. Whichever way you see it there's no denying that it is already readily available to play:
First developed for the arcade, it was first ported to Dreamcast and subsequently to GameCube, Xbox 360 (it's compatible with Xbox One), Windows, Switch and PlayStation 4. The physical releases in that long list of targeted platforms are only Dreamcast and GameCube (sure, the arcade release was physical but if you're into arcade PCBs you already knew that) however.
But now Nicalis is doing us all a favor and releasing it physically for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch:

R-Type Final 2 Kickstarter wraps up in a couple of hours after what can only be described as a week of massive success, as of now it has smashed through $800.000 and keeps ticking.

Shmups on Switch has posted a Psikyo Retrospective:
And finally here's an english fan translation of Dreamcast shmup Karous.

The second STG Chronicle is here!
The continuing, exhaustive, series on the fabulous SEGA Dreamcast shmup/stg library definately continues to deliver.
So happy I got to chip in for this project:
Let's help this ambitious series get the number of eyeballs it deserves!

Bullet Heaven puts the new Dreamcast series into action
The Bullet Heaven STG Chronicle that was crowdfunded on Indiegogo last year is bearing fruit.
Let's be frank. The first episode looks and sounds great! If you're looking for an overview of the Dreamcast shmup library I don't see how you can go wrong by watching this.
And yes, I helped fund this and couldn't be happier!

A Battle Crust review
Back in early 2018 we got word that a new shmup, Battle Crust (also available on Steam), would be ported to the SEGA Dreamcast. It's been shipping for a while and Dreamcast super-fanboy (I say that in a nice way) Adam Koralik has a review:

Sometimes Indiegogo pays off
I never hesitated to throw a few bucks on the Indiegogo campaign to help Ser Flash with his quest to chronicle all Dreamcast shmups.
And now seeing the first video, all I can say is I'm very pleased with the result.
In fact, after watching it, I think Bullet Heaven should do this kind of introduction to every goddamn console out there. It looks and sounds like a million bucks and not the measly ~$400 it took in on Indiegogo.
I'd say for a first episode it pretty much nailed it, I'm eager to watch further installments.
And yeah, that's my name in the end credits! I'm famous now!

Switched on shmups
We knew it was on it's way but making it official that Treasure's beloved Ikaruga lands on the Nintendo Switch on May 29th is still something of a milestone. Yes, it's available on Steam, GameCube, Dreamcast and the Xbox 360/One but it's still great to see it available on the switch so you can "take it anywhere".
The second great news is that Zerodiv will bring Psikyos Gunbird 2 to the Switch. After the first Gunbird it was pretty much inevitable and, of course, very welcome.

Cancelled Atari Jaguar shooter surfaces in early demo version
The failed Atari Jaguar had a lot of announced games drop off the radar when Atari folded and was liquidated. The easily spelled shmup Zzyorxx II was one of them.
Now, thanks to preservationists, a ROM of an early demo has been dug up from the digital graveyard and made available.
The Atari Jaguar, much like SEGAs Dreamcast, is a great "what-if"-machine. When seeing Rayman or Tempest 2000 (a game series very much still alive) running on the Jaguar it's easy to see that the machine had potential that was just never fulfilled.

Ikaruga rated for PlayStation 4
German video game censorship watchdog USK has rated Ikaruga for release on PlayStation 4. This would be the first appearance of Ikaruga on a Sony console. For those of you who don't have a Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox 360 or Xbox One this is great news! One of Treasures finest shmups.
