I think it's safe to say by now that if you're in to shmups and current-gen systems - you pretty much need to get a Nintendo Switch right fucking now if you don't have one. It's just THE shmups system these days.

Vacation update number 2

I'm two weeks into my vacation with two weeks to go. But the news keeps coming!

1. I hope you got your order in for a copy of the Vasara Collection this weekend because it sold it quickly, all platforms. There is a japanese physical release coming by the end of the year, but only for PlayStation 4.

2. Galaga is coming to Atari 2600. It's a homebrew, but still!


3. Shmups on Switch has a review up for Pawarumi.

4. M2 is working on a new game in the Aleste series, Aleste Branch.

Vasara physical announced for pre-order this weekend

Strictly Limited Games made good on their promise to release Vasara Collection physically.

PS4, PS Vita and Switch will all have separate standard and collectors editions, pre-orders going live this weekend.

Vacation update number 1

I'm on my vacation right now so it's not every day I have a computer (I write blog posts on a real computer, I hate writing on phones and/or tablets) but here's a run-down of stuff that keeps happening anyway:

1. Blazing Chrome seems to deliver everything it promised:


2. Grazella has posted their first monthly update on the R-Type Final 2 development status.

3. Sarah Jane Avorys new shmup in development for the C64 has a name: Soul Force.

4. Acclaimed shmup Hellsinker is out now on Steam.

5. New shmup Red Horizon is out now on Steam, debuting July 19th. It's 10% off right now and as a result dirt cheap!

6. The physical edition of Caladrius Blaze for Switch is Korean and has started shipping. Mine sadly hasn't arrived yet.

7. With only days to go, July 25th is the date, Raiden V: Director's Cut for Nintendo Switch is getting retail releases in NA and EU. This one had me worried for a while with rumours of a "single print run" in "low numbers" being spread - possibly to stoke the fire of pre-orders.

8. After a substantial delay Dispatch Games has started shipping the NA version of Psyvariar Delta. They were gracious enough to send me an eShop key for the game (huge thanks! as an aside, I never ask for free games, and I don't expect developers to just give away their work) and I have the asian physical release from way back when.

9. My MegaSD has shipped!

Not gonna lie, I recommend both these games. I wasn't expecting to like Q-YO Blaster as much as I do.

ACA NEOGEO Strikers 1945 available for PS4 and an Arcade Love update

This has been available in both eShop and as a physical release for Nintendo Siwtch some time so it's nice to see the PlayStation 4 get some Psikyo love.

Arcade Love Plus Pengo! for Nintendo Switch now has a website

It's a Japanese only release (like its Xbox 360 predecessor) so of course the website is only in Japanese. I have a feeling this one is gonna end up like its Xbox 360 big brother, rare and out of print, real fast.
