A new installment of the Radirgy series has been announced (see shitty video) and we know next to nothing about it. No platform announced.

I'm still on vacation (with one week to go) but here's the news that's been rolling in:

Game Tengoku! / Game Paradise! CruisinMix went on sale in the EU / NA PSN Store without an announcement of any kind and Degica Games was quick to point out that it really shouldn't have. It's not ready for retail here yet. The game will get patched to retail level when available if you already bought it.

Super Destronaut DX has launched in the asian PSN store for both PS Vita and PS4 with the PS Vita being especially welcome, shmup releases for the system aren't exactly frequent these days.

Dimension Drive has launched in Asia/Japan on Steam, Nintendo Switch and PS4.

Iro Hero, already available on the Switch, is coming to Steam on July 31st.

Omega Fighter in Hamsters ACA Arcade Archives series launched two days ago (July 26th) for both Switch and PS4. I noted it was coming back in June.

RXN ~ Raijin ~ made it into the Japanese top 10 list for Nintendo Switch. They have a sale on where it's down to just 999 Yen there.

Radirgy de Gojaru!, the Nintendo 3DS spinoff of the Radirgy series has been re-listed in the Japanese eShop. Who knows how long it will remain there? Here's hoping the series will re-emerge on current-gen consoles.

Prehistoric Isle 2 coming to Xbox One

Hamsters ACA Neo Geo series will bring Prehistoric Isle 2 to the Xbox One on August 2nd.

About time: Retrobits R-Type III & Super R-Type re-issues coming in August

As announced late last year SNES games R-Type III and Super R-Type are getting a deluxe re-issue from Retro-bit.

I didn't report on this before because of reasons but I may have called it wrong. I guess a re-issue is news. Pre-orders are available and the first 1000 copies come with a different color on the cartridge casing.

Metal Slug 4 coming to Switch

Hamster has announced that Metal Slug 4 is among the next round of titles in the ACA Neo Geo series that will be released for Switch.

Steredenn: Binary Stars not kidding; really getting physical.

It was only a couple of days ago that Super Rare Games announced that Steredenn: Binary Stars would get a physical release for Nintendo Switch.

And now Strictly Limited Games announces that a physical release of the game is coming to PlayStation 4 as soon as july 29th. 1900 copies will be available.

Lest we forget: Gunbird 2 gets the Bullet Heaven treatment

Bullet Heaven brings us a review of Gunbird 2 for Nintendo Switch, the imaginatively named sequel to Gunbird.

Space Dave! is a Space Invaders look-a-like available since the beginning of the year on Nintendo Switch. I somehow missed its release but it's currently 50% off in the eShop, get shopping!

Black Paradox heading to all systems

Black Paradox from Fantastico Studios is a side-scrolling rogue-like shooter coming to all platforms later this year:
Black paradox is a side-scrolling old-school shoot’em up, that features stunning pixel art visuals and electronic music, blended in a synthwave retro-feeling that pays homage to the 80s’ imaginary shared by videogames, music and movies. The game is a rogue-like shooter with random-generated levels that puts the player against different waves of enemies and hazards everytime. It's Nintendos Switch that takes home the prize again with Super Rare Games releasing a physical copy of Steredenn Binary Stars. Coming soon.

Twin Stick with Xbox Gold in July

If you have an active Xbox Gold account the month of July delivers twin-stick shooter Assault Android Cactus. Xbox One X enhanced and all.



Should you care for such things, Assault Android Cactus is available on Steam for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Korea delivers; physical Psikyo games for Switch

Arc System Works has announced that they will release Psikyo Collection Volume 1 on the Nintendo Switch. The games included are Strikers 1945, Sol Divide, Samurai Aces and Gunbird. It will be a physical release in Korea (I don't really need to put South before Korea do I?) and should arrive before the end of the year. Here's hoping Play-Asia comes through for us.

Yes, I already bought them in the eShop but a physical release is just too tempting to pass up for me. Maybe you have the will power to resist?

Vacation catch-up

I'm currently on vacation and don't update as frequently. That doesn't mean the barrage of news stops though, it just means i'll swoop in once a week or so and summarize but don't be sad, it's just three more weeks. ;)

Super Destronaut DX releases on Switch today.

Gunbird 2 is back in the Nintendo eShop in EU and will re-appear on the NA store shortly.

Studio Mudprints who makes all those lovely video reviews of shmups need funding to get a complete Dreamcast shmup library so they can cover that lovely period of gaming in depth. Please help out, there's 10 days left.

Bullet hell title RXN - Raijin - for Switch had an update that adds video support, you can now record and share videos from the game.

Aksys games has announced that their shmup Stardust Galaxy Warriors: Stellar Climax (there's a mouthful) is coming to Switch.


Sisters Royale has been updated so you can rotate the screen left and right, making it compatible with forthcoming magic Switch accessory Flip Grip.

Namco Museum is getting a retail release on Switch, Pac-Man Champiosnhip Edition 2 Plus and Namco Museum will be released together as Namco Museum Arcade Pac and will include the original Namco Museum games you know and love from the eShop release.

SNK 40th AnniversaryCollection will be released for Switch in November in both NA (the 13th) and EU (the 16th).

Pawarumi is 53% off for a couple of more hours. A great game for a great price.

If you like your shooters to be more on the RPG side of things, Play-Asia has an exclusive 1500 copies of Blacksea Odyssey for PS4 ready for order now.

Shmuptacular forum re-opens

A shmup forum open between 2005 and 2011, shmuptacular, has now re-opened.

They desperately need members so please sign up, read the rules, and start postin'.

As usual, i'm not connected to the forum in any way (other than being a member, say hi to me there).

Taito goes full Darius

Taito has just announced that they will release Darius Cozmic Collection for the Nintendo Switch.
It's slated for February 28th 2019 and will include:
Darius (Arcade)
Darius II (Arade)
Sagaia (Arcade)
Darius Gaiden (Arcade)

There will also be a special edition released that will include the above games but expand them with these:
Darius Twin (Super Famicom)
Darius Force (Super Famicom)
Sagaia (Sega Master System)
Darius II (Mega Drive)
Darius Alpha (PC Engine)

The special edition will also include a soundtrack CD, an art book and an acrylic marquee.

Let's get this out of the way, I love the Darius games so this is great news, here's hoping the special edition will be available in large quantities!

I pity the fool who hasn't gotten a Switch to satisfy shmup cravings yet.
